Manchester United beat Chelsea in the race to sign Romelu Lukaku over the weekend and as a result of the transfer Antonio Conte is now refusing to let Nemanja Matic move to Old Trafford.
United boss, Mourinho, has now set his sight firmly on 23 year-old English defensive midfielder, Eric Dier. Dier joined Spurs from Sporting Lisbon, where he spent 11 years, rising through the youth set-up for a basement fee of just £4m.
Dier made an instant impact at Spurs, Pochettino instantly put his faith in the Cheltenham born player and started him at right-back in the opener of the 2014/15 season, Dier made a late burst forward and coolly took the ball past Adrian and slotted it into the empty net to give Tottenham a 1-0 win. He has since been a mainstay in the Tottenham team and has broke into the England side, gaining 19 caps in the process.
Dier is said to be frustrated following less playing time in his favoured defensive midfield role thanks to the fine form of Kenyan, Victor Wanyama. Dier was still a vital part of the Tottenham team last season, he made 36 appearances, most of these coming in the centre back position as part of a back 3.
If Manchester United are successful in their pursuit of Dier it would take their summer spending to over £150m, eclipsing what they spent last summer. Tottenham are yet to delve into the transfer market, but they are believed to be on the verge of signing Estudiantes defender, Juan Foyth in a £10m deal.
We are not gonna let him go to Manchester united
