Romelu Lukaku is set to undergo a medical at Manchester United today. The 1.91m Belgian will complete his medical in Los Angeles later today.
The Red Devil’s announced via their Twitter channel that a deal had been reached with Everton this morning for the transfer of Lukaku, with the fee believed to be around £75m, with £15m in add-ons and Wayne Rooney will move in the opposite direction – personal terms are yet to be agreed but it is widely believed that the Belgian international is keen to reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho. Lukaku was in fine form last season, scoring 25 goals in 37 Premier League games.
Chelsea last night matched Manchester United’s £75m offer for Lukaku, a player Antonio Conte has chased all summer, but it looks like Jose Mourinho has won the race. Due to Lukaku’s time at former club, Chelsea, he is classed as a home grown player, another huge plus for United in this deal. Mourinho is understood to be upset at the lack of transfer activity at Old Trafford this summer, having only signed Victor Lindelof for £30.5m. Mourinho is also keen to bring versatile Tottenham defender Eric Dier to the club, however, it’s believed that Tottenham would demand £50m for the England international.
Lukaku is expected to revealed as a Manchester United player later today.
